I use off the shelf Ilford Bromophen or Ilford PQ paper developer or I mix up Chris Patten's E72. I am considering using an Amidol formula from Roger Hick's book Successful Black and White Photography :
Sodium Sulphate (crystalline) 70g
Potassium Bromide 1.7g
water to make 1 ltr.
Then add 7g of Amidol
Use at 23c-30c 1 part dev to 2 parts water 2-3 mins.
Where can I buy Amidol from, has anyone tried these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMIDOL-AMIDOLO-25-gr-DEVELOPER-PHOTOGRAPHY-/252374145956?hash=item3ac2abdba4:g:EbIAAOSwZd1Veaa G ?

Is an Amidol print dev worth the hassle ? Enjoyed reading the book, Roger Hicks has a no-nonsense easy to read style which I quite like.

When I last looked Silverprint still had Amidol listed as a stock item. I knew about the Ebay Italian supplier but if they are good that may tempt me.

If you are looking for a soft working developer try D163 as an alternative. There are many other formulas you can try as well as diluting your normal developer. Amidol can, if not used carefully, cause staining.
