View Full Version : FADU slogan

Now for something light-hearted.
I’ve been considering getting myself some sweat shirts printed with a FADU logo on the front, but I’m stumped for the obligatory slogan for the back.

All I can come up with is: It's best done alone in the dark. :o

Suggestions welcome.

or:

FADU members do it in the dark

I stop and fix.

Can I assume the sweat shirt will be a useful 18% grey? :D

How about something like "From the light....into the darkroom - FADU.org.uk

or

"Open your eyes....come into the dark" - FADU.org.uk

Fantastic idea

A few more suggestions:

I CREATE in the DARK

I LOVE my DARKROOM ( the Love bit could be a heart)

It's good to develop!

I'm not RICH but I own a DARKROOM

Let's do some PRINTING

Life's a DARKROOM!

DARKROOMS RULE! (an 'OK' could be added at the end to be trendy!)

DARKROOMS do it BETTER

It is done better in a DARKROOM

FILMS do it BETTER

A DARKROOM is for LIFE

I have a realtionship with Film

I am Married to my DARKROOM

I think that is it for now :D

If any more come to me I'll do another list :mob:

I think the FADU logo on its own would look super. Let me know if you find a good quality supplier for the t-shirts because I'm looking to have some made for our FPWorkshops at the moment.

I frequent the red light district. I'll book one in XXL please! I wonder how much one made of microfibre cloth (lens cleaning) would be?

18% grey, two things wrong with that, a) it will fade when washed and b) it has no use whatsoever in determining exposure.

"Where is my Fix" Hmm, or maybe not :p "Art from the dark"
"Pixel free creations" or just "Pixel free"
Best regards

I'd happily wear a t-shirt with the logo; but nothing would induce me to wear one with a slogan intended to be funny.

B&W Neil
8th June 2009, 04:09 PM
How about if we just put FADU's web site address on the back ? Not at all funny and a lot of free advertising :-)

A brief explanation would be required though - such as:

The UK's Film and Darkroom Forum ( or other words to that effect)

www.film-and-darkroom-user.org.uk

Now you are starting to get serious. To be effective the slogan will surely have to be luminous. ;)

B&W Neil
8th June 2009, 05:51 PM
Using luminous print is an excellent promo idea - no objections from me :D

I have come up with a few more funny ones:

I Dabble in the Dark

I am an Old Developer
(NB. can only be displayed by the over 50s !)

I do everything at 20 degrees C

Life is just one BIG FIX

:mob:

Neil.

PS. I think we ought to have FADU's web address on whatever happens :D

Don't let on Neil, but the web address is part of our logo.

I reckon you need to take care not to give the digiheads further opportunity to snigger at film users (eg with slogans trading on geeky references to chemicals or sexual innuendo).

I like some of the ideas above, especially:
FADU - The Dark Art
and
PIXEL FREE

Alternatively, why not go straight to a no-nonsense trumpeting of the beauty of film? Examples might be along the following lines:

BLACK AND WHITE FILM IS SEXY (I think I may have seen this somewhere before, maybe someone's signature line?, but I like it)

FILM HAS SOUL

Digital goes against the grain

The best one I've seen (though we probably couldn't use it for commercial and copyright reasons) is a user's avatar on the other place, saying simply "film inside" in the style of the Intel logo!

B&W Neil
15th June 2009, 10:31 AM
This came to me :

FADU
Run by Enthusiasts
4 (or for)
Enthusiasts

But I don't think it's that original. However it is not funny and it makes the point. So it should not offend. Maybe something along these lines could be thought of?

For me - "Film inside" or "the dark art"...

Seems to me to be the summary of what we do...

But hey - that's just my humble little advertising and Designer pyche (branding) man speaking...

I just had a look at Steve Shermans site

Where I found this one
"Real photographs are born wet"
Kinda like it :)
Could develop into ?

"Real photographs are born wet"
Could that imply "wet behind the ears" -- which would not do a lot for our "image".

That crossed my mind too but I don't read it that way. In fact with the right mindset you you can turn the meaning of most into negative. Then again thats part of the nature of our craft or rather turn negative into positive:confused:
Ahh "FADU, Turn Negatives into positives" :p

Sandeha Lynch

You can only go so far with a good pun ... :)

"Negative Thinking"

Perhaps with b/w smiley underneath.

You know, I think we could also do with our own "FADU Print - Do Not Bend" stickers. Once the design template is done with the logo, each could print their own.

I also like the ring of 'Dark Arts' and apparently LOT'S of people do ! If one does a Google search for Dark Arts so many things come up that one could not claim a lot of originallity using it. The name was also the name of a co-worker's 'art-rock' band who made a nationally distributed record in the 80's.. I'm hoping that something more inventive and even with a bit of Dave's comic style will emerge.
