I came across this small publisher as a title, Greatham Creek 1969 - 1974, was reviewed by Caught by the River (caughtbytheriver.net). All of the titles are only available in very short print runs, though I notice that one of the more expensive titles, Wales by David Hurn has gone into a second edition. The primary focus is British documentary photography since the 1960s.

I'd never heard of them until this post, but I have just spent the last 15 minutes quickly browsing some of the books that caught me eye. There are some really interesting ones, especially showing the period in which I grew up.

The publisher should be more well known! And to publish about one book a week is amazing.

I will return to this site I'm sure.

Brian Griffin's England 1970s is the subject of a short in the August Black+White photography.

I wonder what the print quality is like? Does it suffer at £6 per book. You can't get a new paperback at these prices.

The Griffin title consists of fewer than 20 photographs, which partly accounts for it; but he also seems fairly happy with it, himself.

What a great collection.
To my shame I'd completely forgotten John Claridge, who shot a lot of sumptuous colour advertising (and a Pirelli calendar??) but also did some really earthy documentary work.
I had half a dozen of these little books in my cart, but I can't work Paypal . . .
Seeing this kind of tough, honest photography makes me feel a bit ashamed of making photographs which are pretty much just decoration.
Well done whoever is behind Cafe Royal Books, worth supporting (just as soon as I work out how).

Skellum, you have to join Paypal so to speak by registering. I have been a "member" long enough to be unsure exactly what I did but it is along the lines of telling it your bank details so that when you pay by Paypal it can subtract your payment from your account and send it to whomsoever you need to pay. Other than Paypal who have your account details for deduction purposes the seller to whom Paypal sends the money has no knowledge of your account and credit/debit card details via the internet.

Safer, I believe, than inserting your details online to each seller. remembering different passwords etc

Hi Mike-
Yeah, just need to get with the programme. I was mildly displeased that CR Books want me to sign up with a third party just to by from them, but such is life. If it's a way for tiny but valuable businesses to get a toe-hold then I suppose I can suffer it.

It did prompt me to go looking for more of John Claridge's work, and even from about 17 years old he was damn good.
