Re: Silvershotz

I am just wondering if there are any other Friends out there who received their copy of Sivershotz today. If so what do you think?

We received our first copy today and I can only say we are very impressed by the quality of this publication. We are so pleased we decided to take out a subscription and from only a quick read we can see this publication will not be in the re-cycle bin within a few days of arriving here! This is much more than a magazine and has the feel / look of book – this is a magazine we shall be keeping and collecting for our library. The articles are well written and varied with a good balance. They also have a nice international feel, but above all Silvershotz is low-key on advertisements and definitely image led.

We cannot wait for the next issue!

So, what do you think?

Neil.

Have a few copies that I have bought on spec - agree with you on the quality and feel.
I'm really a bit undecided what to do now that I have unsubscribed from B&W photography, probably continue browsing in Borders whenever I am passing one.

Enjoy

Andrew, we parted company with B&W and put the funds towards a Sivershot's subscription. I wish I had done this last year now I've seen it. Good idea to look into Borders, unfortunately we don't have one down here.

Silvershotz and AG (AG is quartley) I subscrcibe to both and think they are both very good.

Silvershotz I have subscribed to them for the past 2 years and bought there magazine for about a year or so before that. It is not totally darkroom as it does included digital and hybrid contributions.

The thing I like most about it is that it opens up a world that you don't see in the likes of WHSmith photo magazines (althought there is a cross over with some of the artists into Black and White Magazine) and personally think it is just ace.

Silvershotz is a nice magazine. My copy is probably still in transit, or maybe in my PO box...

I did however get my 'free' darkroom timer the other day! I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I am prepared to like it more than those crappy old Jessops/Paterson timers of a similar size (one of which I own)!

See what you did Neil, you reminded me that I had seen the last issue of Silvershotz in Borders and was very impressed, after reading your post last night I ended up taking out a subscription.

What is the Free Timer you were talking about? I didn't see any reference to that.

As Silvershotz got a subscription directly from a post in FADU they might consider adding FADU to their links.

Hi Neil
When I renewed my silvershotz subscription a couple of months ago, they sent out a small electronic timer. I think it was offered to new subscribers too. As I say though, I haven't yet determined how good it is!

I don't think you will regret taking out a Silvershotz sub :) IIRC there was an offer on for a short while back in June / July that included the free timer device, the details were on their website, maybe it has now finished. There should be a reciprical link with Silvershotz as this was agreed with Clive (the editor) some time back. In any event I'll check later to see what the situation is now.

When I try to look at Sivershotz magazine site.

"The blocking of this site was not a unilateral decision taken by OMANTEL. An overwhelming number of requests from the subscribers made us rethink our strategy and conform to the popular demand to block pornographic and certain hacking sites that encourage hacking such as this one.
OMANTEL is not unique in this industry to take such an action. Many ISPs in several different countries are taking steps to block such sites."

:mob::wag::mad: are they telling me something!!?....hummmm see it is not all sun.

McAfee and Plusnet seem quite happy about it :-)

I guess your local censors are frightened that there may be some uncovered skin in it. :D You could have it sent to Yorkshire and feast on it when you get home.

I must have accidentally subscribed to the G-rated version of Silvershotz. There isn't very much bare flesh in my copies... :(
