I have just found out that MXV photographic have closed for business, I had been looking at their website for days and was unable to access the pages showing their stock, now the site has gone and a search revealed my suspicions that they are closed. Another good supplier of film based products gone, it is a shame.
I had bought several items from them over the years including my first Pentax Digital Spotmeter and always found them helpful and knowledgeable.

It is indeed a loss.

I always had good service from them and found their descriptions fair. I was just going to buy up some of their 10x8 DDS's too. :(

Big shame - just not enough of us left I guess. The s/h market for digistuff seems very limited - I imagine most people trade in their old dSLRs when they buy new ones as no one wants last years model.

I guess all that stock has to go somewhere, so keep your eyes peeled.

Since they sold mainly on a commission basis, most of the stock will not have belonged to them and will therefore have to be returned to it's owners if that hasn't already happened.

Shame that , I bought a really good quality EOS 33 and lens last year from them - really knowledgable and excellent service, the guy I spoke to really seemed to understand photography.
Never knew they were commission sellers though - I guess another victim of ebay,

MXV were selling on eBay recently. I noticed a Caltar 150mm lens on a "buy it now" sale a month or two back; but it's not searchable now.

Explains why I haven't been able to browse their web site in the last week or so

A great shame

I always had great service from MXV having purchased many items from them over the years, pity to see them go, not many old style dealers left for us 'analogue' folks, Ffordes, Mr Cad, can anyone add to these?

Mifsuds still do a fair bit of s/h analogue items. I recently bought my Mamiya 7ii from them.

Sorry to see MXV go - I have had good service from them on many occasions.

Dear Dave,
I must be one of a few hundred who have commission sale stock with Paul.
Please does anyone know who the administrators are. Or please Paul do the best for the future and post on this site, as there has been no direct notification.

I don't know who the administrators are, or indeed if there are any. If you have tried emailing or telephoning without being able to make contact, then the next thing to do is to write to their advertised address.

A great shame indeed. I've bought and sold through them over the years. They sold on commission all my Pentax 6x7 gear. Companies like this are becoming a rarity these days.

These are a nice reliable independent dealer that I've bought a couple of LF lenses from; www.andrewscameras.co.uk

Presumably on a commission sale basis the stock still belongs to the owner who commissions the sale and MXV were only acting as the sales agent so a return of stock to the current owners is assured - eventually?

Armed with evidence of ownership, one could arrive at the premises and simply pick-up one's goods, if time was of the essence? Or does it not work this way?

It does, except when the front door is locked, or you live 400 miles away.

I did have my suspicions that something had happened when I couldn't check their stock lists.
You know, Paul was a really nice bloke (he 'hand-delivered' my DeVere 504 . . Uckfield to Dundee - no mean feat!) and the rest of the staff were extremely informed and helpful.
On the other hand there are still other really good dealers out there: Collectable Cameras, Mr Cad, Peter Walnes, Ffordes . . . .
I find the photographic market quite a sad place at the moment though - where's it all going :(

If anyone needs to contact them, this appears to be them: http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/cba9744bb7408a66542bc9ef52531fed/compdetails.

Good Admin at MXV Friday 16th Oct.
After a cordial meeting with Paul Beaumont at the Uckfield premises, I thought it best to allay any anxieties of investors who await information on their commission sale stock; now that the business has applied for a specialist receiver.
Paul is very conscientious of the responsability to return goods, but now by himself, this is a very big task due to the volume.
In order to concentrate on this the telephone is not answered but mail is requested to be sent to the Uckfield address.
The volume of business is said to be suffiecient and overheads are blamed. Therefore it is hoped that Paul's long and valuable experience may be employed again in the future.
Personally I feel that his past integrity deserves our support and hopefully this event will not change him.

I too am sad to see them go - I was able to buy a couple of GS1 items quite some time back, but at very reasonable prices.

Their service was superb and they will be sorely missed!

First I've heard about this, what a shame. :(
I've bought a few things from them over the years and got my first 'proper' camera from them, a Mamiya C330, when I was a student.
I suppose it's quite expensive to keep 'stock' these days.

If the bank allows an overdraft facility the interest rate should be ok compared to a comparitively short time ago. But if sales slump and the cash flow is bad then it's curtains.

And because you don't have capital value in terms of camera stock if mostly selling on a commission basis, there are limited foundations to fall upon?
