I was amazed yesterday to see in our large bookstore pristine copies of Michael Langford's "35mm Handbook" in the photography section. It was last printed in 2000, but its hard to believe that it is sitting on the shelf since then. Could this be the start of the come back of film?

Unfortunately I think it may be the death knell of the bookshop.

That's amazing, I still have all my copies of Langford's standard treatises from when I was at college in the 1960s.

A quick Google suggests he has a lot of books still in print. Is he still around?

Addendum: Curiously, one of those listed is a novel called 'The De Vere Papers (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vere-Papers-Michael-Langford/dp/189859483X/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263739791&sr=1-12)' - nothing to do with photography though, maybe a different Langford?

I still have a few Langfords in my library that get referred to now and again. Great books and still relevant today.

I do know that Michael Langford died, maybe about 10 years ago. Recent printings of his titles do give details. I gave my copies to the library I worked in; so I haven't them to hand to check.
