Flashbulb Import?

The most attractive flashbulb sales on Auction Sites seem to be based in the US. I should like to buy some large bulbs but cannot find out if it is legal/permitted/prohibited to import these by mail to the UK. I assume I have to check both UK and US rules but does anyone have any experience of where to get a sensible answer in the maze of regulations.
