You know back in the eighties when 100% of my photography was darkroom based and Agfa Record Rapid was the norm I used to develop all of my images in solution that was a dark tea colour as this 'gone off' developer produced a beautiful heavy warm tone. Are there still papers around that respond to this kind of treatment and if so, what are they...?

That was similar to my practice at one time. A bit like Lith practitioners use 'old brown'. Although I never reused 100% of old developer I usually mixed it 75-25 or 50-50 with fresh. I would think a paper like Foma's MG Classic would be worth a go with this treatment.
