On a recent trip to Cumbria, I had the misfortune to break the glass on my Wista Field. The fresnel screen luckily survived unscathed, probably saved by the thin plastic film I had printed a grid on and sandwiched between the two. Managed to find a picture framer in Windemere that kindly cut a small sheet of perspex as a temporary repair.
Teamworks, whilst listed as the "official" agent for Wista in the UK do not carry any significant stock of spares. The broken glass measured 1.2mm thick, so I figured it might be possible to get a replacement cut by a local glazer - 2mm is the thinnest stocked by all but specialist suppliers.. UQG Optics (http://www.uqgoptics.com/) in Cambridge can supply just about any specialist glass (I've used them in the past), but the price quoted for float glass was eye watering. Going a little further afield, Chance Glass (http://www.chanceglass.co.uk/) turned up in a search for large microscope slides. A phone call quickly established that they could supply just what I wanted at a very reasonable price - Also wanted some glass big enough to do some hand poured plates which just happen to be almost the same size as the Wista glass.
If anyone has a need for thin float glass, I can heartedly recommend Chance Glass (http://www.chanceglass.co.uk/). A week to turn the order round and supplied a few extra pieces above what I'd ordered.
Boot note: 5"x4" is a standard size for large microscope slides and can be had up to 5"x7" off the shelf.
