FADU 2009
To celebrate our first year of existence, and the pleasure afforded by the photographic printing process we have arranged a public exhibition of your work.

It is our intention that this exhibition, consisting of some forty of your prints, will be hung in a modern display space in Middle England, and will be accessible to the general public for up to 12 hours a day, 7 days per week during the month of October 2009.

The exhibition is intended to further the aims of this forum, so we want to show the widest possible selection of your work. We consider it very important that all abilities are represented; this is not to become an elitist event.

Every attempt will be made to gain the widest possible advertising for the event locally and nationally, both in the specialist and general press, for what is envisaged will become an annual event.

The cost of entry will include the matting and mounting of your print, in a 50x40 glazed frame, cataloguing, labelling, and hanging, together with the return, in its original packing of any unsold prints. Currently we anticipate this entry fee will be in the order of £15 per photograph. If we are successful in attracting sponsorship it may be possible to reduce this, more on that aspect later. Sales will be subject to a commission charge yet to be established, but budget on 50%.

It is envisaged your print size may range from about 12x12cm to 40x30, or something in between. Subject and medium will be of your choice, but it must accord with the tenets of this forum.

It is also our intention to copy and reproduce the exhibition pictures both here on the forum, in a dedicated gallery, as well as in the form of a year book, using one of the on-line publishing houses, this will be available for purchase by you and general public alike. If you see any similarity between this and Best of Friends, please be assured that this is completely intentional.

It is anticipated that whilst the event must be self-financing it will also be non-profit making, but any surplus money that does, by some miracle accrue, will be used to help fund this forum.

I tip my hat to you guys (if I had one) for taking on what will be a lot of work.

Did you see the very long threads in largeformatphotography where they did the book thing. Might be worth trawling through it to understand the pros and cons of which POD company to use for reasonable quality and to alert everyone to the copyright, royalty and other stuff so that there are no misunderstandings after the event.

This is a great idea. I usually avoid the darkroom during the summer, but that puts paid to that. Looks like Blood, Sweat and Tears await in store for me over the coming months.

All fees will go towards the cost of mounting the exhibition, currently estimated at cira £600. We have room for 40 members, so the chance of your entry being rejected is minimal.

Thank You Dave.

How much is the framing going to be charged out to the public. I know its to cover costs but will it have a profit margin bult in. From what Ive read it sounds like the profit will come from the suggested selling price of the picture.

I just need to get things stright in my head.

Entrants must say how much they want for their picture only, I will add on for everything else when I give the price list to the venue. Mark-up will be minimal so as not to inhibit sales.

Dave you say at the top of this log that entry is £15 per pic the entry form states £10 with over sea's going up to £15.

Have you been at the developer again.

Did I read some where that we had to attach 100 word was write up on our selves or was I dreaming.

The rules and entry details can be found here (http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1000). The fees on the entry form are correct.

Address and payment details will be posted at the end of this month.

I think it worth clarifying how prints will be selected for this exhibition.
Each Friend entering will have at least one of their prints displayed unless more than forty Friends enter, in which case a selection will have to be made. If fewer enter, some will have several of their pictures displayed.

I have asked for up to six prints to be offered by each Friend entering so that I am able to attempt to select prints sympathetic to their neighbours for both the exhibition display and the book, as well as for the exhibition as a whole. The number of prints entered, up to six, remains a matter for each entrant, however the more choice you give me to work with the better the show.

Has anyone considered inviting Liz Roberts or someone from Black & White to the opening of the exhibition - there must be an opertunity for some free publicity at least or may be even an article - it would raise our profile significantly ?

Publicity and and article are in hand. There will not be a formal opening, since the funds will not stretch to that, but we are planning a get together that weekend to sample the delights of Wellingborough and it's surroundings.

What weekend are we talking about here? Oct 2/3/4? Any further plans regarding this get-together?

Is there a planned time & date for us all to meet up at the exhibition ?

I would like to meet up with you all, view the prints and indulge in what I am sure is a well deserved round of back slapping; however, I won't be able to stop for the weekend (sadly)

Plans? I've only given thought to food and drink so far. :D

Unless anybody objects I suggest that we meet in the Castle when it opens at 10am on Saturday morning for viewing and coffee. That will leave the rest, of what promises to be a beautiful balmy late summers day, free for picture making.

Check out the advance booking ticket prices if you haven't already done so. The normal day return is eyewatering.

Have done. Would mean me taking the 7AM train (HA!) up there. Advance = no flexibility.
Also don't remember it being much cheaper.

Checked, Advanced would mean 7 or 7:30AM train and £34/person (with network railcard discount) and offpeak day return is £36.50/person (with network railcard discount) and would mean ability to break journey along way if wished, leaving whenever I want on a saturday etc. which I think is worth the extra £2.50 :)

I quite agree, a bargain at £2.50. Looking forward to seeing you again.

I have more or less given up with train travel and usually go National Express (usually Portsmouth to London though). Sometimes you can go each way for £5 or even £1. Might be worth a look.
