Intriguing. I wonder how this came about? Clever but damaging for the sale PSing?:D

Any possibility that a different top has been fitted and that his dad relied on a tiny removable finder of the kind that was found on pre-war Kodak?

It's there but lost in the blown highlight. If you check the third picture carefully you can see it.

Are you referring to the quite dark rectangle directly under the front and in the middle of the lines that might be drawn from the hotshoe down the front?

I can see this and it looks quite dark in the third picture but I am puzzled how a dark area can be literally obliterated without trace in the first picture.

I am sure you are right Richard but it's a puzzle

There is a trace in the first picture, but not much.
