This is one I made in the Orroral Valley about 25km south of Canberra. The valley is within a national park, and has a lot of history with evidence of aboriginal use from prehistoric times, early settlement and farming by Europeans and more recently was the site of one of the tracking stations that supported many NASA missions. This photo shows a restored homestead, and a few of the locals. The valley is a popular place to take visitors, as you can always count on seeing several hundred (or more!) kangaroos going about their business (which normally involves eating grass, lazing around and procreating).

I took this with a Hasselblad 6x6 camera and a 150mm lens, with tripod, and Ilford HP5+ film. The film was developed in Rodinal, 6ml in 600ml, and semi-stand agitation (one minute of agitation followed by five minutes stand, and repeat; 40 minutes total time at 20 degrees Celsius). I was a bit surprised to find the negs came out with fairly low contrast, and I had to print at Grade 4 to get the contrast I wanted. The agitation routine is a little unusual, but I use a mechanical device with a timer so the times are easy to set. Rodinal works well for me with medium-format film as it gives me decent grain that makes it easier to focus the enlarger!

The print was made with Ilford RC multigrade glossy paper and developed in Ilford multigrade developer, and as mentioned at grade 4.

I like the two kangaroos in the foreground and building behind. The whole setting looks homely rather than lonely. A friendly wilderness.

Could be Scotland plus kangaroos and the all important extra 20 degrees centrigade!
