Taken whilst I was waiting to pick my boys up from school - I had 10 minutes to kill and wandered up the river path and came across these cows and ducks (?) sharing a patch of snow free ground. Nikon FE and 50mm lens

I object to this! You must only post such well shot wintry scenes when it has been nearly 30 degrees C in say late July and I need something cool to look at before another sweaty sleepless night and not Nov when my utility company has just written to me about the forthcoming price increase and we have 5 months of winter and the whoosh of the central heating boiler going on to full blast to look forward to.

It captures that "in the deep mid-winter" sentiment exactly.

Sorry Mike - imagine how the ducks feel sat in all that slush...

Glad you like the picture.

I've just remembered the words sung in school. It was in the bleak not deep mid winter: It is all coming back. "In the bleak mid winter frosty wind did moan, earth as hard as iron, utilities companies hearts like stone".

I think those were the very prophetic words of the carol. The scansion leaves a little to be desired of course
