That is a great composition. The young lady absolutely makes it. What more do you want to do to it in the dark room? Maybe reduce the contrast slightly to try to separate out the girl's hair? Or maybe that's the scanner.

Just me I think, I never finish a print without thinking that I could, with a bit more tweaking, improve it.

Is it my imagination, or have you uploaded a new image? The contrast seems to be greater than I remember. The young lady's hair is clearer against the roof.

No, same image. Are looking at it through a different monitor screen?

Yes! That's it. I'm using a different monitor. It just goes to show how critical the viewing monitor is - probably more to blame than scanners.

It's a great composition and I especially like the reflection in the flywheel which conveys the fact that it's a public event.
Both jumper and especially hair have no detail on my monitor and based on that alone I'd have been tempted to suggest lower contrast but if there is any detail in either hair or jumper on the print then this is what counts.

The jumper and hair have a bit more detail in the print but not a great deal more. If I remember correctly, the girl's jumper was black, as was her hair, so there wasn't a great deal of detail there to pick out. I have thought of using a very mild bleaching solution on the hair and jumper to see if this would improve the detail. Would this work do you think, any suggestions?

Looking at it again and given she is under the roof of the engine with black hair and jumper then I don't suppose that the naked eye would have registered any detail so if there is a little more in the print I think you will be hard pressed to improve on it with bleaching
I suspect that bleaching in this area is harder than it looks. Very mild bleach, a lot of patience and a continuous flow of water from a small rubber pipe is probably required.
I think I'd learn a lot from seeing and hearing about your attempts so good for me but it'd probably cost you a good deal of paper so not so good for you.
I might be tempted to experiment on waste bin prints which have such areas in them first.
