Whilst on holiday in Spain/Italy, forget now exactly, I came across a plethora of unique and stylish door knockers. In the UK we don't seem to embrace the door knocker unless it's just a dieing fad. Hopefully this may inspire you to give your knocker a polish or perhaps think about purchasing/acquiring something more than just an electronic ding-dong?!

Excellent shot Simon. I love how you have the lower half of the knocker surrounded by black to make it stand out.

I want it.

Print good enough to look 3-d and real.

I have been on the look out for a decent knocker and fancy one of those disembodied hands holding a ball that you see in Spain. But my late other half thought they were too macabre!

I am still waiting for my son whose partner is Spanish to come good: I keep reminding them.
I have had to make do with a cheap lion with a ring in its mouth that has no weight, is losing its surface paint to reveal corroded aliminium and doesn't even cause my cat to stir when used.

If you google ''knocker'' as I did (to make sure I understood the meaning of the word) you'll find a couple of jokes, and then a great collection of knockers - door knockers! Among them is the one of 10 Downing Street - it is amazingly similar to your photo. I like it, yes the contrast makes the brass shine. Well done Simon.

Love the tones in the face of the knocker. Not a particularly welcoming face to make you want to enter but then perhaps that is the intention? Great shot. I have just bought some Kentmere 400 to try out.

Thanks for all the comments. Like most of my photography, there is an element of previsualisation but also some luck! I didn't realise at the time the bottom would turn soo black, which I also feel helps to make it stand it more than the rest. It must have been a combination of the exposure, direction of light and finish on the door. Or a stroke of good fortune!

Mike - if you'd like a copy, happy to send you one in the post. Same goes for anyone, just PM me your details.

Ta, Simon

p.s - I googled 'knocker' too, there are some interesting and quirky ones out there!!!
