Mid-December in Luxembourg. The harsh white and the flower pot attracted me.

I quite like this Peter, although the white frames and picture border look a little grey on my screen. Brightening them up in PS makes all the difference and I'm sure it looks much better in the hand.

As for the composition, I would have turned the camera to the right a little to include a little more of the right hand wall, if possible. I would also leave out the dark rectangle on the wall and floor on the left ie symmetrically placing the windows in the picture with the door being central = hope this makes sense?

I do like the general idea though along the tones in the wall against the white frames of the door and windows, which would have caught my eyes also.

A back handed compliment I think it is known as. Smile

Hi Terry, thanks for good comments. I'll reprint it because not self particularly satisfied with the composition. (my wife told me before I posted it!)
I just got a new scanner (3 in 1 kind of thing) and haven't yet learned to make proper scans - the original has a good deal more detail in the shadows.
Peter
PS what is a back handed compliment?

Hi Peter,

I think it got it slightly wrong when stating my comments as a 'back handed compliment'... Smile

A BHC is when one makes comments to sound nice whilst actually meaning the opposite (a google example being: backhanded compliment =What might at first sound like a compliment but could/should really be taken as an insult when considered in its entirety).

This I DIDN'T mean! I was basically trying to express the opposite ie I made lots of comments that could be corrected but actually meant that I liked the picture.

Does anyone know the expression for wording this way around?

Also if you're reprinting it Peter, I'd be interested to see the updated version somehow.

I like your shot Peter, the white surrounds really give the photo the extra lift.
