Now that to me is a proper photograph capturing a fleeting moment in time in exciting light and beautifully printed - did it take a lot of dodging and burning?

It was difficult to control the overall contrast range while maintaining the contrast in the sunrays. I started with flashing to just before any tone appeared. Above the sand line it was burnt by 1.5 stops, the sky burnt for a further half stop and the left hand part of the sky by a further three quarters of a stop of the original base exposure. It took three attempts to get it right. Thinking about it now, I am surprised it worked as well as it did without being visible and therefore a failure. Moral of the story is - be bold!

I like the fact that you have captured the light streaming through the clouds, it is something that I have found hard to do in black and white. Nicely done.
