Taken on a freezing morning, travelling North on the A9 through the Highlands. With the sun not yet up the moon dominated the sky.

Looks good and wow if the sun wasn't up and all the light is from the moon there is amazing detail here and to me it's surprising at as little as 4secs at f5.6

Shows how much I know about night photography.

Almost a "moonrise over hernandez" Smile

Incredible detail considering the time of day and time of year.

Hi Mike. This was taken in the spell when it's getting light but the sun is still below the horizon.
If it was evening it wold be 'twilight'- when the sun has set but there's still light in the sky. It only occurs to me now I don't know what you call "pre-dawn twilight"! I'l have to find out. So although the moon is bright here this isn't a proper night shot.
I tried moonlit landscapes a few years ago. In the Islands we have little light pollution, and a full moon in a clear sky really looks bright. However, it seems to be a relative thing, and in absolute terms moonlight is pretty weak for photography. The exposures ran to hours, so I didn't persevere.

ps- just checked. The half-light of both morning and evening is 'twilight'. I thought it was only night. There ya go.

Thanks for the explanation and I too thought that twilight only applied to the light into darkness period and not the darkness into light period.

Hi Derek- although I am a fairly determined black and white shooter (just between you and me) this would have been better in colour. Pink sky, white moon, cool blue landscape . . . However, even though I had no colour with me I wasn't going to let it pass.
