I think the soft focus and glow on the roses is lovely Alex.

Lovely photo Alex. Nice seeing more large format on the forum these days.
What colour were the roses by the way ?

Thanks, Derek and Martin. The roses were off-white with a subtle pink edge to the petals. I thought the yellow/green filter might accentuate that, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. I suspect there is far more green in the petals than the eye detects.

Superb all over. I love this sort of images. Pictorialists were blamed later on by f64 for not showing the truth. Your picture shows a very beautiful truth of these roses. They glow! Frank

Thanks for you comments, Frank and Barry. I am also a fan of the Pictorialists from the late 19th, and early 20th Centuries.
Alex.

This is a very fine photograph Alex. Technically, what a great job you've done capturing a huge range of very subtle highlight tones and setting them against really rich blacks. Artistically though it's also superb- it would have been easy to include all the rose heads, and instead you crop right through them for a more dramatic result. The soft focus works well, and because we see so little of it these days it feels fresh and appropriate.
I've had a couple of prints from Alex now and his print quality is excellent- this one will be even more delicate in the flesh than it is here.

Thank you, Michael, Fran and Colin. I made this image a few weeks ago, and specifically for this Exchange. It was good to have a reason to get the 4x5 out, and to work with some FB paper. I’m glad you like it.
