A wonderful photograph.

I think this is great, Rob! Before I read your notes, I was thinking Viking Longship. I can see why you decided to photograph this subject. It works really well, and I like the way you have made the boat fill the frame, but with some necessary 'breathing space'. I think that's a long way of saying 'great composition'.
Alex.

Beautiful capturing of the curves of the planks. I love these old wooden boats, they are the real ones.

I would agree with Alex about the boat filling the frame. Gives the impression the boat is coming for you.

Rob, nice shot. Given the angle of the name on the boat and its age, I think it says a lot about the film, camera and lens that I could read it fairly easily
Does Amidol do anything special compared to bog standard developers? Thanks

Amidol is an old developer component which was often used by Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. I was lucky that I was given 500g of it recently as it's expensive (if you can get it) I can't put my finger on it but it does give a certain 'something'. It's also capable of vary cold tones with graded bromide papers (they're pretty rare now too). I'll have to print this a near as possible and develop it in something bog standard like Ilford Multigrade and see if I see a difference.

Thanks Rob. Is this the stuff that while you may not be able to put your finger on it, you certainly can't put your finger in it unless you are happy for your skin to turn black?

I also like the lines of the boat and texture of the timber nicely done.

The very same. It goes off really quickly too and stains everything it comes into contact with. Makes your fingernails go purple - nice!
