A very intriguing print, Alex.

Thanks, Martin. I was trying to feature the sun-bleached tree stump, but I don’t think I got the best angle. The problem was trying to avoid falling in the boggy pond surrounding it. I have driven past this location hundreds of times, but this was the first time I had stopped. Making your way across the peaty landscape is actually quite difficult, and slow, but it looked like a promising location. This was the best frame from the outing. Alex.

Lovely low key shot which brings out the tree stump in the foreground beautifully, looks a great place to visit

Interestingly a lot more detail, especially in the foreground, shows up, when copy and pasted into my copy of PS Lite.
This is good, as I do like a dark and broody shot.

Thanks, Richard and Terry. This area consists of a huge expanse of peat bog, stretching for miles. The road travels across it at a slightly elevated level. If you walk in from the road, you can quickly lose sight of it, which is very disorienting. You have to hope a vehicle will appear to show you the way back.
Alex.

Dark and moody, the tree stump immediately catches the attention.
Nice!

I get the impression of a very desolate place - somewhere you would not want to get caught in winter. I have seen other pictures of Rannoch Moor of course, but this shows the desolation as much as any I have seen. Can you imagine this place 200 years ago with no road to speak of and a horse out of financial reach.
I'm sure it looks lovely in summer

Thank you, Buzz and Bob. I have travelled across the moor on the A82 regularly since I was a child. Opportunities to stop and explore, however, have been limited as we were always heading to a holiday destination much further on. This time I went with the sole purpose of stopping and exploring. It’s a fascinating area. All going well, I’ll be back there in May.
Alex.

Very nice Alex
I've too have always wanted to stop and explore but have always been busy trying to get to somewhere else.
When all this madness is over I must go back and give the midges their pound of flesh.

Thanks, Martin. The colder months are a good time to go. I can’t imagine what the midge count would be like there in the Summer!
