Direct contact from 5x4 Ilford FP4+ to 5x4 Maco Genius Ortho to make a positive, which will, when I can get down to my chemicals, be used to make a 5x4 paper neg for salt printing, I'll probably have to make a new pos though, this has slipped in the masking frame.
Just a bit of interest, well, this is the discussion gallery:-)

Never used paper negatives but I have made negatives by reversal. A long time ago I was shown how to do it by a photographer named Liam Lawless. He used an interesting technique for reducing contrast which tends to be a problem with ortho copy negatives. There is a brief description of his method here http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/NbyR/nbyr.html

thanks Barry, I'll have a butchers at that when I've got a mo, One of the ways to get continuous tone is to use paper developer with ortho/lith films. Of course, when you're working from a B&W neg there is no red anyway, you're just copying the tone, just like photographic paper but a tad faster, about 25.
This slide should produce a reasonable paper neg for salt or egg albumen printing.
If you really want to replicate Fox Talbot's first neg/pos process, you need to coat a piece of writing paper with the salt/silver nitrate, expose it in a camera then use the neg to contact with another salt/silver nitrate soaked piece, I may give that a go one day:-)
