Quick RC work print from an HP5+ 35mm Negative at 400asa.

This was my first time use of Precysol. I used the semi-stand technique as recommended. The negatives are very sharp, but they lack shadow detail. Overall they look a little thin. I know that it is not easy to judge stained negs visually but the print also has little shadow detail.

I will try again with a reduced film speed. Comments welcome.

I note you are using Prescysol at 20C but Peter Hogan recommends 24C, I wonder if that would make any difference? I have found I get more shadow detail with Prescysol semi stand at 10.5mins. than other developers. I would agree that the negs do look a little thin compared say to Rodinal but I do find they print better.

Thanks Tony I missed that point. I'll test again at 24C.

Barry Can you let us know how it goes? I am toying with the idea of trying Prescysol EF and as it happens with HP5+ and while I note others' positive comments on it as a developer, anything that goes slightly wrong worries me.

DDX and Perceptol are the devils I know and I am tempted to stick with if Prescysol offers no improvement.

Thanks

Mike

I'll give an update when I can Mike, it may be a little while though. I usually use Perceptol, but thought I had better try what a lot of people here seem to use.
