I have printed this shot before while dodging in order to retain detail in the woods. This time I have tried Split Grade printing and I'm happy with the result. I used Filters 0 & 5 to get the finished print.

Good evening Vincent.
I'm sorry I'm not able to see these prints in person, as I recall seeing the original version of this print in a previous gallery.
This version feels more subtle, less "infra-red" if that makes any sense. The first version had some brighter highlights, which was certainly dramatic but less balanced. I find this version easier to 'read' as my attention doesn't flit from one bright area to the next.
As an image it makes fine use of both the panoramic format and the IR film.
Lovely.

Hi skellum, thanks for your comments. I think you are right when you say this shot is more subtle. I was never a fan of split grade printing but recently having tried to print this shot with Filter 5 and dodging and not been satisfied with the end result that I tried split grade. I hope to try out a few more of my IR negs with the same method over the coming months. Thanks again for your interest in my work.

I fully agree with Colin's (Skellum's) comments and I really enjoy this print.
