The subject matter works really well with the blue. And I could imagine that the other tones may work better with different subjects. Nice experiments.

That's the thing about these old negatives - they invoke a different age and printing them like this reminds you this is no modern reproduction.
The person taking this must have been impressed by the Royal Lady there, no doubt gleaming in her new paint and the first diesel excursion ship in Scarborough. Only recently built in 1934 according to http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/Scarborough2.html - she was sold on in 1937 which narrows the date of the negative down a little. Sadly she didn't survive much longer, being sunk by the Luftwaffe in 1942.

Hi Bob, thanks for the comment. We think this may have been taken by my wife's late mother when visiting relatives in Yorkshire. I suspect they may even have had a trip on her as we do have a further couple of photo's which show a different ship at sea, which may have possibly been taken from aboard the Royal Lady.
