Print from a negative which was taken by a family member while visiting relatives in Yorkshire sometime between 1934 and 1938).

Unfortunately the negative has some damage to it, which has happened at some point in the last 85 years.

Hi Ian,
Great print for this wonderful image. Negatives can last!
In this case I like the original cyano better. The deep blue, blue sea...

The subject matter works really well with the blue. And I could imagine that the other tones may work better with different subjects. Nice experiments.

Thank you for your kind comments. Have grown to quite like Cyanotype printing, and will do quite a bit more over the summer.

I love pictures of ships and boats, Ian. This one is great as a Cyanotype.

That's the thing about these old negatives - they invoke a different age and printing them like this reminds you this is no modern reproduction.

The person taking this must have been impressed by the Royal Lady there, no doubt gleaming in her new paint and the first diesel excursion ship in Scarborough. Only recently built in 1934 according to http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/Scarborough2.html - she was sold on in 1937 which narrows the date of the negative down a little. Sadly she didn't survive much longer, being sunk by the Luftwaffe in 1942.

Hi Bob, thanks for the comment. We think this may have been taken by my wife's late mother when visiting relatives in Yorkshire. I suspect they may even have had a trip on her as we do have a further couple of photo's which show a different ship at sea, which may have possibly been taken from aboard the Royal Lady.
