Free Stuff! Gnome Alpha enlarger etc.

Gnome Alpha Rangefinder enlarger, 35mm to 6x9 formats. Complete with lens and working (well, the lamp lights up, I haven't tried printing with it). Plus a variety of old darkroom bits and pieces - trays, Paterson Mk3 Universal tank with one spiral, 10x8 easel, safelight etc. This all came from a local household auction, I bought the lot for some other bits and pieces, and this is what's left.

The local student I was keeping it for doesn't appear to want it after all so it's offered free to a good home!

Either collect (preferred as packing it might be a bit difficult) or pay carriage - £10 by ParcelForce 24 if I can get it into one carton.

I know someone who is looking to upgrade from a 35mm enlarger to a MF enlarger Richard so I will point him in the direction of this thread.

RH Designs 17th September 2010 05:17 PM

Thanks Kev :).

cowasaki 17th September 2010 05:22 PM

Richard,

Kev just sent me a post over on another forum we both frequent. Yes I am looking for a MF enlarger as I have just started developing my own film and have just mixed the chemicals to do my first ever wet prints :) It seems very cheeky for my first post to be me trying to get this enlarger but I do want one and it will get lots of use. The other bits would be VERY useful too!

JimW 17th September 2010 05:23 PM

The worst thing that can happen is he says no-be cheeky!

RH Designs 17th September 2010 07:20 PM

I don't mind a bit of cheek ;). OK, it's yours, and you're not too far away either. I should point out that this stuff is very old and rather basic, but the Gnome ought to be capable of making decent prints. Among the auction lots were some prints persumably made by the same guy and they seemed perfectly fine.

A bit of research on Google suggests there may be different condensers for 135 and 120, I'll fire the thing up again and see whether it covers 120 OK, there's only one condenser with it. The neg holder is universal IIRC.

Give me a call (the number's on my web site) or PM and we'll arrange how to get it to you.

cowasaki 18th September 2010 01:08 AM

Seriously thanks it's much appreciated!

RH Designs 18th September 2010 01:34 PM

Right, I've had another look. It appears to be set up for 35mm at the moment - 50mm lens and 35mm neg holder. I tried the 105mm (actually a Wray Supar 4.25 inch) lens and the universal neg holder (which has movable masks from 6x9 down to 35mm) and the illumination doesn't cover the whole area. Presumably therefore the condensers are set up for 35mm as well.

The condenser actually comprises two semi convex lenses so it may well be that by fitting them some other way they will cover the larger formats. There was a posting on APUG recently from someone who has the instruction manual for Gnome enlargers and can probably help. I'm afraid my knowledge of condenser enlargers is something close to nothing; all I can say is that it's potentially a MF enlarger when set up that way. Someone who knows about condensers can perhaps chime in here.

Richard,

Many many thanks for the enlarger. I have now arrived home after a couple of detours. I am really happy with it thank you very much.

You're welcome Darren - thanks for giving me back my dining-room!

Hi

I'm new to this site and the whole dark room expeience, and a friend of mine (Ken Cooke) pointed me to get involved in this site. I was just wondering if you had any of the equipment mention left. I will be willing to pay the postage not a problem.

Regards

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

That lot's gone I'm afraid, sorry. Welcome to FaDU though :).

cowasaki 19th October 2010 06:07 PM

Ashley,

Do you have anything towards your dark room at all?

Barry 19th October 2010 08:02 PM

Welcome to fadu Ashley. Keep your eye's open here for darkroom equipment.

cowasaki 19th October 2010 08:05 PM

Ashley,

I collected the stuff off Richard but have also collected some other free stuff over the past few months. I do have some spare stuff so might be able to help you with some bits.
