Tintagel - 6th, 7th and 8th March, 2015

Tintagel, North Cornwall - 6th, 7th and 8th March, 2015

If you couldn't make our successful Hartland Quay gathering in November why not give this one a try? Or for those who came to Hartland Quay and enjoyed themselves you will have no problem in making the most of what is on offer in this beautiful part of North Cornwall.

This time we shall be exploring the fantastic rugged landscape that abounds within the Tintagel area. This short You-Tube video provides a good insight into the diversity of subject matter the location has to offer.

We will also being visiting a few of the nearby beaches with Trebarwith Strand being the prime target but we will only do this if it is safe for to go there. In the right conditions Trebarwith Strand is an outstanding beach for photography, however, this is what it can be like when you maybe would not wish to go there!

Our base hotel

We are using the Camelot Castle Hotel which is located on the western edge of Tintagel, with not much between it and the Atlantic!

The hotel is in an ideal location with stunning views of the sea, good car parking and coastal walks direct from the door. Their winter Special Offer room rates for a three night stay are very attractive..

Special Offer - Room Rates:

Single room occupancy for three nights B&B is £129.

Two sharing a double room for three nights B&B is £99 per person.

Sea view rooms are available at a slightly higher rate – ask when booking.

NB. To get the special rates book with the Camelot Castle Hotel direct and mention FADU. Booking early by phone is recommended.

Address: Camelot Castle Hotel, Tintagel, Cornwall, England, PL34 0D

Alternatively, plenty of other accommodation is available in the area.

When you have booked your accommodation, or have decided to join in, please let me know by posting on this thread so I can compile a list of those who are coming to keep everyone updated.

What shall we be doing?

The format for the weekend will be as usual - informal and to do some photography with plenty of time for socialising. Hopefully we shall have another print sharing session at the hotel so do bring some work along to share with the group.

The aim is to visit a few photographic locations that I know from experience will provide good opportunities for photography, as well as to accommodate the wishes of the group. The locations will be decided on the day and will be chosen with the weather and safety in mind. But if you would prefer to do your own thing that will not be a problem.

Possible places to visit are:

Tintagel coast and Castle

Trebarwith Strand, and other beaches

Rocky Valley – inland river running to the sea, old mill buildings, sea cove and water falls:

Boscastle Harbour

Disused Slate Quarry and engine house

+ many more excellent locations that are nearby.

Any walking will be moderate with the emphasis on maximising image making opportunities. As the weather can be unpredictable in March outdoor clothing and outdoor shoes/ boots are recommended.

If you can’t make the whole weekend but can manage to come along for a day or two, or join in for a few hours on one of the days or evenings, you would be made most welcome.

Travelling by train or need a lift?

Barry has kindly offered to provide a lift to anyone who can make it to Temple Meads Station, Bristol. So if you can get to Temple Meads Barry will be happy to have your company for the rest of the journey to Tintagel. Contact Barry by PM if this is of interest.

I will be announcing details on arrival times and meeting up etc., nearer the event. But if you have any questions / queries please do not hesitate raise them here, or if you prefer send me a PM.

I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Neil.

Thanks to Neil for setting this up, does look a great place. I will probably be able to come, but will know more in the next few days.

David, excellent, I hope you can make this one.

Neil.

What a great looking location. Unfortunately, I've got no annual leave left, and the date clashes with a compulsory training course.
As they say, Bugger! :(

B&W Neil 10th January 2015 09:55 PM

What a bummer - we would have loved to have you there but there will be other FADU events to consider in the future. I have a feeling Tintagel will be returned to several times, just like we have done with Dartmoor and Hartland Quay. Watch this space as they say and we hope one day we shall see you :)

I'm interested, I see the Camelot Castle Hotel is friendly and can accommodate my multi-spotted assistant :D

Much depends on my wife's upcoming heart (pacemaker) op as we haven't had the date yet.

Hi Neil. For some reason our leave year (NHS Scotland) runs from the First of May ????? Somehow I find myself with just two days left
I had also (rather too) loosely planned to go to the Glasgow Film festival, based around the GFT , in February. That's another bust.
I very much hope you have a great time. Tintagel looks absolutely fabulous. Cliffs, arches, and the right time of year for some good light. I'm a bit jealous on this one.

ps- Just off the A9 I have often seen a sign for Easter Tintagel. I thought it sounded like one of Fleming's Bond Girls, but now I feel prompted to find out just what it means.
