Very Old Hasselblads -- Queries ---

The 90 odd year old fellow Camera Club member who gave me Nikon FM, FE Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F now gave me his very 'well-used' 500C/M 1978 and a 500 EL/M 1973 probably NEVER serviced. I cleaned all the body shell, viewfinders, screen -- the 'mirror bumper FOAM' strip is all rotten and 'Bits' keep falling onto mirrors. Do you think I can replace it 'myself' as i have foam sheets from Hobby Crafts Romford OR an 'Expensive ' Hasselblad service ? Has anyone HAD a Hasselblad service CLA ? HOW MUCH ? Also -- from where can i get those 6volt NiCad Re-chargeables for 500 EL/M DEAC 5/500 DKZ ?

Not sure where to get the CLA done Pete, ("Newton Ellis" rings a bell) but i'm sure i've read about re-cell'ing the ELM batteries.

From memory, they are made up of two packs of 6x rechargeable button cells wrapped in heat-shrink....Google is your friend i guess!

You could look up PPP on the net they do camera repairs for all makes.
You could if you wanted do the foam yourself. I re-foamed one of my cameras with some I purchased from hobby craft

pete have you changed the foam on 35mm SLR cameras

pentaxpete 15th July 2021 04:50 PM

Big Paul -- YES I have changed foam on many 35mm and also a Mamiya C220 but the Hasselblad mirror bumper foam is under a little black metal 'shield' -- very difficult to access.

I just had a look at my two ,553ELX and 503CW ,and removing the focusing screen I can get to the foam easily so they must have changed the design on newer cameras .I recon that it would be in the £200 mark for a foam change and a service ,but they are going for a lot of money on the web so it is definitely worth having them done .

Good luck

Hi Pete
I would go with Newton Ellis, they have repaired many a camera for me, mostly classic cameras, and never a problem, it would be expensive, but with the prices these older hassies are going for today it will be well worth the cost,
Richard

Last time I checked Hasselblad USA was still servicing some older models. They are in NJ

Sorry NJ USA is a 'Bit Far' to send to ! The 500CM is 1978 and 500EL/M is 1973 according to Serial Numbers and both had equally 'Beat Up' A12 film backs --- I had to paint satin black on all the worn surfaces -- now today I may have a look at the Light Seals --

Peter.
I don't know if you have seen this site. It may possibly be of some help.

Cheers.
