Print Exchange 121, September 2020

Time to think about the Print Exchange for September 2020 – FADU Print Exchange Round 121.

All those who want to participate please post here and send me a PM to confirm your address if I do not already have it or you have changed your address.
Closing date for registering your entry is Monday 31 August, 2020. Latest date for sending your print is Wednesday 30 September 2020. I am only looking for one print in a month.

I would add that if you do join the exchange and later encounter problems which prevent you from completing then please contact me by PM. Sometimes we do get confronted by the unexpected but if I and the other two people involved (sender and receiver) know you have a problem then it does take out the uncertainty in our minds and perhaps find a solution.

Print Exchange Rules
To start with you will have the remainder of this month to sign up, the cut-off being the last day of the month. If you wish to be included then make a post on this thread to that effect, and at the same time send me a PM with your name, and address.
Head the PM with the title “FADU Print Exchange Round”, and add the round number.
At the beginning of next month those that have given me their details will be provided with the name and address of one other member to whom you will be expected to send your print before the end of the month.

You will not be told who has been asked to send you a print, so that it remains a surprise until you receive it. When you send your print please post to that effect on this thread, but do not say to whom you have sent it. We like to maintain the element of surprise until the last moment. When you receive a print please post to that effect on this thread, you may say who it is from and comment on it if you wish.

Anyone failing to send out their print without good reason will be excluded from future events. If you run into difficulty in this respect then please let me know.
If you wish to participate then confirm your intention on this thread and also send me a PM with your name and address.
The selection process will be as random as possible, and I will try and ensure that you receive a print from a different person in each round although eventually there will be some repetition.

There is a Gallery for posting your print after it has arrived with the recipient. It is not compulsory but it does make the Exchange more interesting to all members of the forum and displays your work to others.

Rules
• Your print must have been printed from a negative exposed in a film camera
• Inkjet, digitally printed photographs, or computer manipulated images are not allowed
• Your print paper can be any size that will fit in an envelope up to A4 size
• The image may be any size or format
• Paper type and finish is your choice, as is the subject
• Alternative processes, toning or other treatments are all accepted
• It is recommended you provide some background information with your print to assist your recipient as this encourages interchange
• Don’t forget to enclose your details and FADU name so your recipient can thank you
• You are only responsible for the cost of posting your own print
• Please ensure you dispatch your print within the round month
• You must enjoy the experience
• If you have any queries or problems - please contact me as soon as possible.

Welcome back. It is always good to welcome back relapsed participants.
I am (or should be) in the process of putting all the past exchange information, which Tony has sent me, on my database so I will eventually have your prior activity easily to hand! Others prints are always of interest and could not disappoint me.

Mike

Please count me in, Mike. I’m hoping to get a bit more time in the darkroom next month.

Yes I have included you; you have just slipped under the radar. I had forgotten that yesterday was 1 Sept and I should have closed the call.

And arrived today. Not even two but three prints! All very different. A seascape, some dirty tea things left on a wall outside a beach cafe and a very surreal picture of some wetsuits and a towel hanging on a line.
Thanks, Mike

Richard Gould 14th September 2020 07:16 PM

Thanks Mike, that was quick, it often takes a week to get there

Sorry Ian, but I've been a bit busy the last few days, but yes, they have been received, thanks. :)

And Ian has sent me not one print, as most people send (including myself) but three prints from his latest printing session for this months exchange, covering a variety of subjects.

I particularly like the moored boat print, taken at Whitby Harbour. The subjects fill the frame well and there is a good range of tones and contrast in the print.

So many thanks and well done Ian. :)

CambsIan 16th September 2020 03:37 PM

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the update and the nice comments.

I think the harbour print was my favourite of the three, seemed to print out nicely without many complications, my kind of negative :)

Ian

MartyNL 23rd September 2020 06:59 PM

Olé!

I received a print from Terry today of a bull. Not any old bull mind you, but that of the metal sculptured variety.

The light works very well together with the low view-point positioning the dark, heavy mass of the beast against the light sky. Grasses and wild flowers add a softness and foreground interest complementing the scene.

An excellent result form Terry's teaspoon formula processing.

Thanks, Terry.

My offering has made it to the post.

My print is in the post. Unfortunately this will be m last one for quite a while as I am loosing my attic darkroom as a bedroom and office is built up there. The good news is I can have a purpose built darkroom in part of the old workshop in the garden but that will take a while.

That's a shame, but good luck with the re-purposing in the workshop. :)

Received yesterday an excellent print from PanFrank. A still-life wade with a 100 year-old large format camera an beautifully contacted printed. Delightful! Thanks

Just received from Mike a superb print showing reflections in the windows of a large building in Manchester. I really like the tones which suggest a bright, sunny day. The tight crop, and angle of view create a very dramatic impression. Thanks Mike, I am very pleased with it.

Just arrived, a FB print on a new paper to me, Berger, and very well printed, a cactus in flower at the Eden Project, lovely tones and certainly a unusual and interesting subject, and take on a Bronica Etrs, I like it a lot, Thanks David, now just get that new darkroom up and running,

Just to say that I, along with Mike now, have put our pictures into the gallery.

It's always good when we get the full compliment of pictures from people that have taken part in the exchange. :)

Lovely print arrived today from Rob Archer. Landscape taken on an Olympus mju1 which has been cropped to produce a great photo.

Thanks

Thank you MartyNL

Two beautiful prints of the inside of St Mary's church in the Lake district arrived today. Same neg one on cold tone and one on warm tone paper.

They are my kind of photo, what is it about the insides of churches and photos?

Personal favourite has to be the warm tone one.

Thank you for the beautiful prints Marty, a quality for me to aim for.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for my late feedback, but it is a true pleasure to come back home from a one week holiday to find a wonderful print of a sea image. Thank you very much, I like it a lot (and the letter)! Unfortunately my holiday was not there, but in the middle of Belgium. Same amount of water, but coming from the sky.:) Ideal weather for spending time in the darkroom, which for no good reason I forgot to bring along.;)
Cheers, Frank

Hi Ian, I’m really pleased you liked the prints and many thanks for the compliment, they’re always appreciated and never taken for granted.

And it’s a stunner!

Apologies Alex, I’ve been away, returning over the weekend and only got a chance to open my post today. What a beautifully printed image - the large expanse of sky, very evenly toned, looks fabulous. I’m absolutely delighted to add this to my collection.

Thank you!

alexmuir 5th October 2020 07:29 PM

Thanks Dave. I’m glad you like the print. I don’t normally have wildlife in my images, but I thought these birds were worth including. They looked like they were waiting patiently for the tide to change.
Alex.
