Durst M805

I recently purchased a Durst M805 B&W enlarger which needs the top Bimagla AN Glass insert for the carrier. If anyone could advise me where I could find one please let me know. Also can anyone confirm that the enlarger head only has one mirror to reflect the light to the condensers. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this. AO

Try these people in the UK

http://www.northernphoto.co.uk/durst.php3

or direct from Durst

Thanks so much for the links Argentum. Going to call Northern Photo in the morning and hopefully Durst will reply to me in the next day or two.
Thanks again for your assistance and best wishes, AO

Don't hold your breath waiting for Durst. They aren't speedy. If Northern Photo don't have one then just order online from durst. It'll turn up (eventually).

And you might try NOVA as they have a load of Durst bits whaich don't appear on their website.

As far as I know there is only one mirror to reflect the light to the condensers, but I'm curious as to why you need to ask..?

The new price for a Binema AN glass €32 is well worth the money as they go for silly prices secondhand. And the problem with secondhand as you can imagine, is that you can't be absolutely sure they are free of scratches or marks until you have it in your hands or even make prints. And believe me, even the tiniest graze will definately show up on prints costing you more money and heartache in the long run. Unless you love re-touching?:D

My advice is buy new and have fun straight away rather than wait and perhaps be disappointed and out of pocket later.

Thanks for confirming that for me. I asked because a seller on Ebay sent me some out of focus, blasted with flash pics which seemed to show two mirrors. The guy was a crook...he knew nothing about the item and wanted payment by credit card not paypal.

An example of silly money!

At that price I agree you may as well buy a new one direct from durst. But by the time you add VAT and shipping it'll probably cost a little more from durst but personally I'd rather have a brand new unscratched one from durst.

I agree waiting to hear back from them and place my order. thanks again to both of you for your time and assistance. have to get the kids to school now be back a bit later.

Cheers Al

I have an M805 packed away with loads of accessories. I may well have what you need but will need to look and check the condition. If I have one you can have it for beer money not silly money...
There are companies that sell AN glass cut to size which might work out a lot cheaper.

I Shoot Film 19th April 2012 10:07 AM

Thanks so much Xpres. I don't know what else to say, I'm lost words by the generosity of your offer regardless of whether you find the piece or not. It's not just yourself, everyone has been so kind, thoughtful and decent towards me on here. It's really overwhelmed me and vindicated my decision to give up on digital and return to film. If you want to sell any other parts either now or in the future I'd be very interested in buying them.

Best wishes and thanks,

Alan

I had a problem posting this sorry if I posted it several times...

You're welcome Alan. I'll look for it this evening.

I've been half heartedly looking for a reasonably priced AN glass for my L1200 - €69.25 sounds reasonable for a new FEMOGLA AN, then I looked at the FEMOGLA T...... €501.95

That's for when using the varipoint head and printing electron microscope images. There were specially coated condensors too which were even more expensive. Just found them under the B+W head. FEMOCON 151-T and FEMOCON 152-T. Only just over €2200 for the pair. :D

Us mere mortals don't need that special coating for our pictorial images.

Note that the remaining spares that durst have are limited and don't include everything you might be looking for.

Alan, good luck with the M805. I had a M800 which served me well for many years. They used to make a cold cathode attachment which just slotted into the head once the condensers were removed but I suspect these would be as rare as 'hens teeth' these days and limited to graded papers.

Enjoy.

Yes, Durst Danoli head. I had one with my M800 a long time ago but have kept it just in case. I don't know why though, really, as I have a cathomag for cold light.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help and advice. I'm itching to get going.

Alan

Xpres 19th April 2012 11:06 PM

I have found a spare set. I can't see any scratches but they need a clean.

I Shoot Film 20th April 2012 04:06 AM

Thanks again...would wetting agent be the suitable for washing them? I heard of people cleaning focusing screens with it.

Best Wishes,

Alan
