First 5x4 Processing

2 Attachment(s)
I have just processed my first 5x4 film and have some marks down one edge of the film.I used a Comb Tank and Precysol EF processing 6 sheets at once.
The marks are on the notch side on three sheets and the other side on the other three.
Any help would be appreciated.
George.

It looks like the film has received some additional exposure to light.

Could be your film holders (DDS) that are worn, or poor storage of them prior to use.
It could also be a problem with the seating of the DDS in the camera. Were they pushed fully home so that the retaining slot engaged? Did you wait until immediately prior to the exposure to pull the slide out, and replace it immediately after?

No answers I'm afraid, just questions, but they are the areas I would look at.

Thanks Dave,
The area in question is on opposite sides of the film and strange that it should be all on one side in the tank and in the carrier.
I have another 4 sheets to process and will try using an Orbital tank for those when I have used your modifications on the base.
George.

George.

Good idea to use a different processor as it will remove, or prove that as a cause. It did occur to me that, if your tank is not a new one, that contamination could be the cause through poor cleaning, but that would be more likely to effect both sides.

Let us know the result. It's a great shame because your pictures otherwise look good.

Hi Dave,
The tank is brand new and unused. I,m off to buy some araldite!

Definitely a light-leak somewhere, but whether at the camera or the developing tank should become clear when you try another developing method.

Good luck.

I'm wondering about agitation.

Dave, you commented on a scan of mine last week: as a consequence, I radically changed my agitation (in the Doran tank, not altogether dissimilar in principle to a Combi) and have pretty much knocked my CHS 50 problem on the head. The marks on my negs looked quite like light leaks as well.

One cannot rule out anything, but I feel light leaks are the cause here.

George, the last time I used Araldite on a darkslide it became an immovable part of the camera.:o Take care.

No Dave, I did,nt meen the darkslide! I meant for the base of the Orbital processor. I found some plastic buttons that are used on flatpack furnature to cover the heads of screws and glued these on the base.

That's a relief. :slap:
