Hi from Holland

Registered a while back and finally taking the time to make my first post here.
Have been shooting analog with my dad's Olympus OM-1 since the early 2000s.
Took a break for a few years where I solely shot digital because of convenience, but about three years ago I picked up my OM-1 again.
I started developing the films myself, starting out with black & white, followed by C-41 not too long after that.
I still shoot digital alongside, but when I go out for hobby, it's now mostly analog.

Since then my camera collection kind of exploded, currently owning several OM cameras with a nice family of lenses among them, a couple of Prakticas and a Canon EOS film camera to share lenses with my digital gear.
Still, my OM-1 is my favorite camera, both technically and emotionally.

Last year the OM-1 needed a total overhaul as the light meter was not working anymore (battery wire rotten and CdS cells were also shot).
I had already replaced the light seals in the past and had removed the prism foam at the same time, but I finally managed to purchase a junker OM-1 to strip for parts so I also replaced the rotten prism with a like-new one from the junker.

I also finally built my own darkroom about 5 months ago, well, pop-up darkroom in our attic, and started printing black & white.
I already had the enlarger, which used to be my dad's together with the OM-1, so I started simple by buying a small pack of 8x10" paper, some trays and chemicals to see if it was something for me.
Soon after that I obviously bought more paper, larger paper and trays and more chemicals, now being able to print up to 12x16" from 35mm.
Quite the adventure to figure it all out, but now I'm hooked!

One of my first prints, off the first pack of paper.

Welcome aboard!

Always good to see a new acolyte tempted to the dark side :)

The print is looking great too!

Have fun, Bob.

Welcome Buzz. Good that we have another colour film person as well on the site. The bigger the range of knowledge the better. The OM camera family has a great history

Dear Buzz,

12x16" is the right size for exhibitions. May be, that is the next step for you?

When I started printing my own way back in the 1960's 12x16 or 12 x 15 as it was then, was a small print for serious workers and 20x16 was more normal.

Too big for me (and expensive) I have never printed anything bigger than 12x16 and I think you are quite right, that is the right size for exhibition.

Buzz do you still use C41 colour? I do both and alternate which I print. The weather here is rubbish today, not cold, but wet so I think a day in the darkroom is looking more likely. I have plenty of colour negs I have not even looked at for a long time so it may be their day.
