New London Film and Darkroom Group

About 15 months ago, I tried (unsuccessfully) to set up a Film and Darkroom meeting group through FADU. Despite my posting having over 2500 views and about 50 responses, when it came to the crunch their were only two or three FADU forum viewers who expressed an interest in meeting in London.

Not to be beaten, late last year I floated the idea of a Film and Darkroom group to the membership of LIP (London Independent Photography) who have about 350 members who meet in 10 or so ‘location-based’ satellite groups around greater London.

The new LIP Film and Darkroom Group was formed in January this year and meets monthly in central London. For more details see the External Groups thread on this FADU forum.

Well done, Ted. By all accounts there are film and darkroom enthusiasts out there. If a bunch in London no longer feel "on their own" it can only be good for the future.

Best of luck

Mike

Good on you Ted and best of luck with the film and darkroom group.

Thanks for your great idea and perseverance Ted, it sounds like a very interesting and worthwhile enterprise.

You should know the Admins here have previously found it very difficult to get people out for meets. It is nice to have the 'usual' few regulars at these meets but even fadu members local to the meeting area rarely join in, even for a day. Why?

I wish you every success and when I am in London I would love to join you. I will look into membership.

Best of luck Ted and I wish the venture much success. Good to hear you are catering for all abilities and expertise.

Unfortunately I am a bit too far away to pay a visit and I seldom get to London these days.

Hopefully your post on FADU will find you some new members.

Neil.

Shame this wasn't up and running during the 20 years that I lived in London, up until about 10 years ago, as I definitely would have joined, along side my membership of a photo club, as there was only one other member who did (occasional) darkroom work. :(

But just looking at the website, there is a large backlog of newsletters / magazines to browse, so I may not be at the meetings in person but will be in spirit. :)

I wish you all good luck with the ongoing group meetings.

I got a bit confused for a minute there, as you seemed to have made two very similar posts, within the space of a couple of minutes...?

Good for you Ted, I wish there was one in the south-west around Devon & Cornwall.

The same in my camera club. :(

Whenever I mention that I both still do and enjoy film and darkroom work, their eyes roll and start to glaze over...

So, long live these internet forums! :)
