LIP Film and Darkroom meeting group

The London Independent Photography (LIP) Film and Darkroom group was formed in January 2019, and meets monthly, in the early evening, in the crypt of a church just a stones throw from Waterloo Station and the South Bank in London.

The groups primary purpose is to create a forum for traditional analogue photography – to promote the use of film and darkroom printing and to discuss and share all the inherent skills and techniques that go with it!

We currently have over 20 members who's experience, not surprisingly, ranges from complete beginners... to members with literally decades of darkroom knowledge. Most of us solely work in monochrome, but we also have several members who shoot in colour and some who specialise in Alternative Processes. The average age of our membership is probably mid 40’s.

I believe this is the only Film and Darkroom Group in London, maybe even in the UK?

Our Film and Darkroom group operates as a satellite group of LIP and details of both the groups activities and membership of LIP (currently £35 a year) can be found on the LIP website at

The crypt of a church? Brilliant! I’d have been up for this but I’m 450 miles away. Sounds like a good group, though.

Brock, what about that group just East of Edinburgh in Prestonpans set up by local resident, Mr John Cope. Plenty of time to get there as all meetings are in the evenings. John's not very good in the morning:D

Cue a song from Andy:D

Don’t think I’m aware of them, Mike, but I’m always last to discover these things.

Well John Cope as a visiting Englishman, is certainly well known in Prestonpans. Andy( Stewart that is ) among others sang about him, it goes: Hey, Johnnie Cope, are ye waulking yet.

By reputation he was not at his best in the morning or so Charlie said. :D

Up the rebels!

Never mind Andy Stewart, this version by The Corries is superb and well worth a listen - even by the Sassenachs in the audience. Can't think of any photographic content for this post so I'll just add "potassium bromide" and hope it slips past the mods.

I got a bit confused for a moment, but it seems you also made another post within minutes of this one...?

Ah! The Corries. Memories of StAndrews University at the end of the sixties. I think I took some photos at one of their concerts - I must look and see.
