Am i finally right that the two most used are the https://www.ilfordphoto.com/colour-filters/ Red, yellow, orange If so any ? will be getting Cokin P on ebay Thanks |
Yellow-green is not a bad one to have if you have tree foliage or that sort of vegetation in the shot

For Filters I suggest you look at the srb site, just google srb will get you there, very good quality filters, both glass and square, often cheaper than most other places as they make a lot of their own filters, good british quality, yiu won't find Cokin but Cokin compatible filters at great prices, as far as filter's go the only two I ever use are Yellow and orange, with orange the most useful for seascapes/landscapes with great moody skys, I never use a red, I find the clouds are way to moody for me, but if I am just taking general stuff, such as today when I was at a local Cider making festival I put a yellow filter as it gives me a more natural look,Also I use glass round filters, but as I have a lot of lenses on a lot of cameras, some fixed and some interchangable, I only use 1 size of filter, in my case fairly small as 99% of my cameras are 50 to 60 years old and I fix the filters with good old Blu Tac, works very well and saves me a fortune in different size filters or if using suare filters different size adaptor rings,

I forget SRB yes, thanks

I use single-size filters with step-up rings and also Cokin P-Series filters. That was, until I bought a lens with a 95mm filter ring...
I can't even find a sensibly priced red/orange/yellow filter in that size! Did get a polariser so that's OK. Looks like I will have to switch to Z-Pro size filters, or larger (or rubber-band the P-series filters to the front of the lens - that seems to work(ish)). Anyway, the moral of this story is, when settling on a filter size, think ahead! |

If I remember people used to simply meter through them with hand held meters . |
. That’s what I did when using the cameras in built metering. However, when metering manually, which was the norm for me at the start, there was usually a filter factor (1 stop for yellow for example) which I applied to the hand metered exposure. If meter said 1/60th at f8 I would select 1/30th at f8 or 1/60th at f5.6 for example.

Thats what ill do then
