Never used Courtney but I have a Courtney flash meter than won't work when wired up to my Elinchroms.

ah, if I end up with a courtney flash system could that mean you may have a flash meter on the market

Courtney have a very good name, as far as I understand, for reliability Richard

Jon - I think the Courtney stuff was priced more favourably than your Bowens, Elinchrom etc but still considered to be pro quality and generally well respected

I remember seeing a Courtney outfit at Robertsons of Bradford when they still sold second-hand stuff which looked good value for money and if I hadn't already bought my Elinchrom gear, second hand too, would have had it.
And yes my Courtney meter is in the box of stuff to sell on.

For what it's worth, the camera store I worked at in the 1980's used to stock Courtney lighting and certainly had a good reputation at that time. Our manager was the specialist when it came to studio equipment, and he sold many Courtney items to professional photographers he knew personally.
