Another FADU Yearbook?

With Dave no longer here on FADU, I would like to ask if there are any plans for another FADU Yearbook?

I was wondering if the rule of having the prints on 16"x 12" papers only put some people off entering, instead of allowing prints from 8"x10" up to 12"x 16" papers?

The yearbook was closely associated with the exhibition that Dave organised each year so the rules were largely based around the need for displaying exhibition prints. It was to some extent a catalog for the exhibition.

I'm not sure if it makes sense outside the remit of an exhibition, but if it is decided to continue, it may be that scans of prints will be acceptable as long as they are of suitable quality. Also, not sure what the selection criteria would be without the exhibition to drive selection.

I think it is up in the air for anyone to discuss...

If there is enough interest I'd be happy to put one together. Perhaps based around the individuals that contribute and what sort of work they do and their motivation. A promotional vehicle for fadu and its contributors.
I think I'd still want to see the original print and scan it to the same quality as all the others, but it doesn't matter what the format and size is.

I really like the idea and would love to take part.
A couple of points for me are;
one making the book cost effective.
And two participation/selection.

For the first point, since we all know our prints are going to end up as scans anyway would it make sense to just make a digital book?

For the second point, to avoid it from becoming a bit of a free for all how about making it a book of only the FADU print and negative exchange rounds?

Only thoughts....
PS I realize we already have galleries but the uploaded images are hardly high quality

darkroom currently dismantled whilst trying to flog the house so I won't be participating. However, the question arises does it sell and in what quantity? If it doesn't then what's the point unless its just the participants who each buy a copy.

Personally, I would be surprised if we made many if any sales outside of the forum members.

But if I participated, I'd definitely want a copy = maybe even if I didn't saying that. It really depends on the work in the book if I didn't submit anything.

Thinking about it, maybe that should be one of the main points, in that if you submit work and it is used, you MUST buy a copy???

But even if this was to be that would only mean 40 ish max books sold. With these Blurb type created books the problem is getting them sold to a wider audience.

I agree with that. Sending prints is the way to do it.
An exhibition would be a welcome bonus too (if possible). Dave did put a lot of effort in trying to get an exhibition on. :)

I think it should most likely be a Blurb, or similar, type thing, so no obligation to buy a copy. There would be no outlay on a print run so no overheads apart from time. I agree that sales may not be huge.
There would also be no need to produce work especially for the book. I think anything made this year would be OK and not necessarilly restricted to stuff on FADU.
I think the book should be about people/photographers who work in the darkroom and the images they produce, something more than just a catalogue type thing. Maybe include interviews and photos of darkrooms as part of profiles...

If there was enough interest and images forthcoming it could be done, but its much easier to put a book together first. Putting on a show sucks up a huge amount of time, effort and money.
