Help needed on Durst DES 100 Test Print Analyzer
I am hoping that a forum member might be able to help.
I am considering the possibility of bidding on a Durst DES 100 Test Print Analyzer ( on you know where ) Does anyone use one ? Does anyone have a set of instructions for the above that they could scan and send so that I can have look to make sure that it is what I think it is, and that the one I am considering is complete ( the seller knows nothing about it ) ? Anybody got any comments ? Ian |
Hi Ian. I note that SDS has one for £49 which will carry a guarantee, I imagine and I am sure that the SDS sponsor will be able to help with an explanation of what it does. Unless the e-bay one is a lot less then a call to SDS might be worthwhile. You could try making an offer. He can only refuse
However looking at it, it seems to be made for colour work. It actually says colour in the title. Not one I have seen before Have a look at the Butkus site as well. It carries instructions on a lot of stuff. It might have them there. Sorry I can't be of more help Mike |
Hi Mike,
Thanks for that will look at the sponsors site, I do like the idea of a warranty. The ebay one is listed as not untested, so was going to be a bit of a gamble. This one sounds a better idea. Thanks for the pointer. Ian |
Ian, if you contact SDS, let us know how the DES 100 works. Is it colour? What threw me was that there appears to be no probe with it which is usually needed for an analyzer, be it colour or B&W so I am intrigued.
Thanks Mike |

Hmmmm looks like they might do two different products, both called Des 100, or the one on ebay is incomplete.
The one on SDS seems to be different, it almost looks like a colour negative analyser, whereas the one on ebay is a labellled as a test print analyser. Maybe they are one and the same, maybe not. See picture Ian |
Hi Ian
I have a Durst DES 100 CA, the one on the right image in your post. That one is for analysing colour negatives for printing. Not heard of the one on the left but I think that DES100 was a generic name for a family of Durst products. I have the instructions for the CA version if I can get my scanner to run but my skill will only give you them as a series of jpegs of the pages. Let me know if you want them. Bill |
Pure speculation in my part but the one on the left( the one that isn't with SDS) looks to have a probe on the side and what may be Magenta Yellow and Cyan knobs with two lights under each channel.
So it looks like a colour analyser as well and one into which( here's the speculation) you place a perfect print from maybe a test neg and then null your dials by moving them until the lights go out or on and that gives you your calibration. The usual method is to produce your perfect print from a test neg and perfect print provided by the colour film makers such as Fuji and Kodak which matches the print that the colour film makers have provided. Once you know your filter settings(YMC) for the perfect print you null the knobs by a needle arrangement or in the case of your machine by making the lights go out or on. As I said a fair degree of speculation on my part but from these knobs it certainly looks a colour analyser. I am still intrigued Mike |
Bill - thanks for the offer if I need them will let you know. I think you are quite right about DES being a range of products I think it may stand for Durst Exposure System.
Mike - Yes you are thinking along similar lines to me. I was thinking that maybe the lead was a power lead. The ones that I have are for negs only, this could be for prints, hence the intrest. If you are intrested I have just got a few more photo's from the seller that I could email you, just send me a PM to sort it out. Thanks to you both for your ideas, if you or anybody else have any more ideas, keep them coming. Ian |

I have just tried to contact Durst direct to get further info on this item, but sorry to say that they are shut down for the next two weeks, so no help from there for at least two weeks.
I have had another thought that maybe a forum member who is the owner of a Durst colour enlarger might be able to help with. Are there any jack plug sockets on the head that does not have a use that this could be attached to ? Or if they have a manual for their enlarger, is there any mention of this as an accessory ? See attached image, for what I think seems to be a " jack plug " |
I have one of these - and the manual too. I could email it to you if you pm me your email? I never really used it.....
