I now have the 'beast'! I had forgotten how heavy they are but I think I have a good partner for my F6. It is not quite 'mint' although to be honest it wasn't described as such. There are wear points...

Hand held metering

I seem to remember that a Minolta Spotmeter, and definitely on my current Minolta Autometer 3, all have facilities to swap between Shutter/F number or EV number all at the flick of a tiny switch....

Colour Crossover.

Mike, I have never seen a proper written explanation from a factory of how and when crossed curves happen. The mentor I had in the early days of my colour developing and printing was a person of few...

With the change from cameras with a manual wind on to those with an auto load and wind on, the section of film at the start which is cut away could be omitted, but there are still a significant...

Not for me

I find it to be far too intense and technical for me. Too much reading and not enough substance. I gave up after the 2nd page.

Knowing all that will not make one iota of difference to my methods...

I cannot agree more about the F4 I have had a couple in the past and regret selling them on. I dropped one onto grass but it wasn't damaged only a bit of mud on the right hand edge and jokingly said...

Nikon F4

I have just bought an apparently almost mint Nikon F4 For less than 200! It looked such a snip, without too much arm twisting I contacted the dealer and it is on its way to me come Monday. It has a...

The video was not that clear. The original factory which was in use was actually in Ilford - not Mobberley in Cheshire. They had a small facility there until at least 1969. That I know because the...

Leica Reflexes

This may be due to the late arrival of a viable reflex from Leitz. The first one with a meter in the prism but not TTL metering was promptly named 'Uglyflex' by the photographic press. The meter was...

Summa/Summitar

I used to own a Leica manual dating from around 1955 I think. It had comparisons of Leica cameras and lenses from the 111A up to the 111F - it went missing during one of my house moves. I recall...

Quality Control

There was an article in one of the photo magazines many years ago, I think it was just before east and west Germany were re-united. It was about the factory where they made the likes of the Praktika...

Ra4

Be aware, setting up RA4 can be expensive, but I am sure that you knew that already. The NOVA processors are for the amateur in my opinion the gold standard. You can do print after print with no...

They do not appear to degrade each other, well not in my experience anyway. Splitting the bleach and fix into 2 seperate elements would make it impractical with my set-up anyway because the NOVA slot...

Longevity

That is too late now I have gone back to Kodak. It has shown to be far more stable than Tetenal and is in the long run far cheaper. Kodak paper and Kodak Chemicals I trust them more than Tetenal.

Because of the cost, I started to use Tetenal RA4 kits about a year ago but have never been happy with them. A mix of off white borders, poor saturation and bleach fix that didn't last the test of...
