Having just finished my new darkroom, I made my worktops 700mm deep to get my DeVere to stand comfortably on it and still leave room for the fingers to comfortably work the handles.
I also bought some PTFE (Teflon) pads for the DeVere to stand on, to allow me to slide it around, when I needed to reposition it - highly recommended (from Amazon)
