As stated, I adopted the alkali stop bath because it seemed a logical step and had the added advantage of not carrying over acid which shortened the life of the alkali fixer.
Without Part B a 2-bath developer will not work, on the other hand I saw no discernible difference between using my diluted acid stop bath and Peter Hogan's brew. When the pyro re-discovery era came along with PMK etc. the perceived wisdom was to use an alkali fixer and I simply went along with the recommendations of others - it all worked and I have been very happy with the results so saw no reason to change, or become involved with pointless debates.
