Many thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
Well I've decided to go ahead with the project in 5x4, just purchased a couple of bits and bobs (tripod mount and the "hole") just need to pick up a 5x4 dark slide and some positive paper.
Fingers crossed my simple DIY tools and skills will produce a decent result.
Will let you all know how it goes
