I hadn't considered this technique before but it seems to be a good solution.
However, density change caused by 10 units of yellow is very very small. The biggest density increases occur in the first 30 units and then go below 5% for yellow. i.e. nailing your time factors requires extreme care in processing to get accuracy. However, using 10 unit jumps upto 30 units and then 20 or 30 units thereafter should give plenty of points to plot on a graph. You can then fill in the other points from the graph saving some time. Magenta adds far more density than Yellow but again the biggest rate of change is in the first 30 units. Thereafter things even out. On my L1200 the graph becomes linear after 30 units . See attached PDF document. Note that the factors in the document are created from Dursts own figures. They do not give speed matching on zone 8 print tone. However, they do serve as a guide for L1200 users. L1200 filter factor chart.pdf |

This is what the article is about; shifting the pivot point used for the filter factors from 0.6 density to around 1.20 (zone 8). Of course, if you wanted to drive yourself nuts you could produce a filter factor table for each zone density but hey, I'd rather get drunk with mates (or take pictures of course; it would depend on the light!)! |
