I've always thought that the R6's look a bit over chunky and not very finessed.

Mind you, just checking ebay uk, they do sell for quite a bit less than their rangefinders!

Default Leica Reflexes

This may be due to the late arrival of a viable reflex from Leitz. The first one with a meter in the prism but not TTL metering was promptly named 'Uglyflex' by the photographic press. The meter was activated via a small window on the front of the prism. It was big and chunky then and the design didn't really improve with age. In my mind the worst in appearance of the lot was the R8. Don't get me wrong it was a good camera but so damn unappealing to look at.

For normality, the R3 which was a clone from Minolta (with internal improvements) was possibly the best looking of the bunch. However non of the reflexes had the appeal of the traditional rangefinder models. If it looks nice, people will generally pay a little bit more for an item.

The R8 got the “uglyflex” nickname as well, deservedly so. Mind you, I think a black SL2 looks great. Just a bit big for my liking.

And so it continued, with very little difference in design, even by the R10.

I've just gone through the range of them, from start to finish and it's interesting how the design of the range went, although not for the better.

What's an R10 ?

BTW, the R8/R9 fits the hand perfectly. The haptics are wonderful. And it does looks nicer in person

It was a concept digital camera that never went into production. This is an image I found on another site. https://www.apotelyt.com/abc-i1/leica-r10-960x640.jpg

This can be misleading. It's a concept made by Omar Pirela Neuman, with no affiliation with Leica AG. It's just the artist's view.

And just to confuse the issue even more, here is a different mock up photo, which out of the two models I prefer the look of:

This is not a mock up but rather a photoshop image of a R8/9 with a minor twist.
