And built like a tank, the Horseman and others don't have the same build quality. But I'm happy with the Horseman which go for at least half the price.

I had one and although built like a tank mine was unreliable, occasional frame overlap. PX'ed it for some 8x10 DD's and bought a Horseman which has been trouble free.
Just out of interest, negatives from the Linhof are wider then the Horseman; 121mm as opposed to 112mm.

The Linhof backs are reputed to manage the film tension better than the other makes.
Film tension is important in keeping the film flat - depth of focus at the film plane is measured in 10ths of a millimeter Whether the reputation of the Linhof for film flatness is justified is purely in the eye of the purchaser You pays your money and you takes your choice - as the saying goes Martin |
