Carlos Pérez Siquier - a Spanish odyssey
An interesting article on yet another new name to me.

Yes, a new name to me as well Nick.
I particularly like the 'pre-Martin Parr' colour pictures, that Parr acknowledges himself apparently, with a bit of text next to the last picture; Roquetas de Mar, 1975 These images pre-date Martin Parr’s revered colour images by some years, as the British photographer has himself acknowledged. Impossible to tell - at least for me anyway- what the colour film was but some shots certainly have that nice, authentic. slightly de-saturated look that I associate with Agfa colour film

Great stuff there Nick! Thanks for posting. It's always inspiring to see such work, and especially from photographers previously unknown to me.

Yes, well done Nick - it's always interesting when fellow members introduce a lot of us to a new name in photography.
I like his style from what I've seen now, so checked around the various sites and found a reasonably priced book about him, to add to my ever expanding library. Terry S |

I ordered a small book about Siquier after reading the initial post and having a browse on the internet and it arrived today surprisingly.
It's a great little book full of pictures, and on first opening it, there is a picture of the photographer, taken in much sunnier conditions, but with a lovely (Rollei?) TLR around his neck. The next five pages about him though, are all in Spanish, as it has been put together by a Spanish publisher. Oh well I thought, I'll just take in the lovely photo's, which are all very well saturated in colour, with only two verging on monochromatic, with very muted colours. Getting to the end of the book, I was pleasantly surprised though, as the initial five pages are printed again, but in English! I've only quickly scanned the text, but I can see no mention of which camera and film that he uses. Oh well, it's still a great book. The book I bought btw, was purchased via Amazon, as it was the cheapest for a new copy: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Terry S |
