This might be due to the square format I suppose. Unlike some I like composing within a square.
I believe Diane Arbus used Mamiya TLRs but I find those are for tripod use.
Yeah TLR's are surprisingly handy things - I find the sports finder windows to be very useful in tight situations . .
As for Mamiya TLRs . .ah, the olde Mamiya Rut. My shoulder remembers it well!

My complete Mamiya 6MF sytem is at Ffordes at the moment. Great travel system, the whole lot fits in a small bag and the lenses are second to none. Handles like a big Leica and some 35mm AF SLRs are bigger!

But I would think a good travel camera. And thinking of travel cameras then maybe a Fuji GA 645zi which has always had good reviews and comes with a zoom lens and a fair amount of automation but works in manual mode. Reputedly has excellent lens.

.

Here's a sensible revie of the Fuji 645ZI

Thankyou, everyone, for your suggestions. I couldn't afford a complete 6x6 rangefinder with three primes so I researched camera rucksacks and lugged my Hasselblad around instead. What an exciting place!

Is that Iceland or Fadu you're talking about?

If you find yourself over in this neck of the woods, I have a Canon 9900f. You'd be welcome to haul it away.

With a 43mm lens on the Mamiya 7 the metering is reduced to a spot!
So if you go on this route, Yes it is the best travel but in your proposed combination with AEL and recompose or use a hand held meter.
I have used a pair since its conception. The 7/2 body still available for about £800. Against a new Fugi for £2000 from Robert Whites of Poole
