WTB: projection print scale
I want to buy one. I've seen many in sale through eBay, but I don't have an account so I ask here.
If maybe I didn't explain correctly, it is like this one |

I've never seen one of those before.

The one I had was about 10x8. I found test strips to be more useful. I suppose I must still have it; somewhere.

Kodak no longer makes those, of course, but Delta (a local company where I live) makes a similar product:

If you can't locate one on your side of the Atlantic, I have a couple that are still in the unopened package. Postage may be more than the thing is actually worth. But, PM me if it gets to that. (I'm in the USA) I learned with one of these. It is a useful tool. However, I think one finds that eventually one's skill will increase and test strips with smaller intervals will serve better. |

I don't have one, and of course everyone has their own methods of working, but it seems a bit limited to me.
You want to know the tones in specific areas of a print - it's unlikely that one of the segments of the scale will fall on the part of the print you are interested in. I agree with Dave that test-strips would be much more useful and save you paper over this. Good luck, Bob. |

Should I better look for the Gene Nocon book? |

The Gene Nocon was the first ever printing book I read and its fine but having since read Tim Rudman's "The Photographer's Master Printing Course" I rate Tim's as much the better book in terms of information and instruction.
Get both if you can. There are plenty of secondhand copies available and neither cost too much but if I could only have one then Tim's book wins easily. Others of course may have different views Mike |
