Default The Last Gandolfi.

I have the opportunity to purchase the last 5x4 Gandolfi built by Fred, It has never been used, it is made from teak with brass fittings, includes two lens boards, three matching 5x4 dds and tripod all matching all completely mint and unused with correspondence between Fred and the seller, whats it worth, I don't know what I should offer and the seller has no idea of what he wants, any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Keith
Thank you for that, I do have this saved in my bookmarks already, I haven't seen the Ken Griffiths film but there seems to be a plan to release the film 'Gandolfi-Family Business' on DVD.

I'd suggest you offer what it cost new, adjusted for inflation.

Default Can I buy it?

After breaking into my kids money boxes, prising up my floorboards and counting up all my loose change I can scrape up £500 but I guess that is not enough. I hate it when someone is selling something and will not tell you how much they would like. It puts the buyer in a position where a low offer may cause offence, or the buyer may realise after the sale that he has paid too much. If I was in your position I would have to ask the seller what he thinks it is worth, I would then do some research and show the seller examples of Gandolphis that are for sale or have been sold .

Yes I do, the person I just purchased it from, photo historian James Fenton, he has a letter from Fred informing him that the camera was ready for collection, James also visited the Gandolfi workshop several times when the camera was being made, James will give me the letter at a later date, I will post a photo of the kit soon.
