I do similar to most.

I make notes as I'm going along, in a paper note book, as my memory can be so bad, especially if I'm interrupted mid-flow whilst printing. I rarely reprint work, and if I did, I think I would find it hard to find the page that my notes for any particular negative are on anyway. If I did do a reprint, as mentioned, I think that it might be printed differently second time around, depending upon my mood etc.

As for paper usage, to top up my Nova slot processor, I keep these type of notes on an A4 whiteboard, that I have pinned up on the wall, close by.

Bob: I've just read your post after uploading mine.

You have attached a few PDF pages of your printing notes, but they are all blank. Were there supposed to be some details in some of the boxes?

Terry, I would have said no. These are examples of Bob’s note pages and generously he has posted them so that we can download for our own use.

Thanks Bob, very useful.

Normally I never make notes because I usually only make one print for use in postal folios. After that use they never get printed again as I never have a reason to make a follow up print.

I tend to think of each printing session as a new adventure

Bravo! I was ashamed to admit I hadn't even thought of keeping printing notes. This sounds like the wisdom of Confucius. Keep up the good work Bob.

As Bill suggests, these are just the blank pages - no notes on them. Just uploaded as an idea. I made these a few years ago - there are way too many details requested on them - I just threw in everything I could think of that might be useful

Hi guys

Thanks for all your ideas and to Bob for his printing notes templates.

I make notes for my prints as I think printing is an iterative process and often put my prints away for a while, so I can review them "cold".

If I like the print on a later inspection and fancy another go at making a better hash of it, then I have some ideas of where to start.

I have also checked Ansel Adams book The Print and he made printing notes on the back of one of a test print - although he says in the accompanying notes that he always makes subtle adjustments each time when he reprinted.

I mark up and keep my test strips. I very rarely reprint the same way, the test strips gives a starting point and alternatives.

That's how I do it on the work prints with these specs:
Coloumn height
Aperture
Grade
Time
Contrast setting of my RHD Analyser

Keep the work prints as starting point like David mentioned. With the Analyser work prints are pretty good already.
